Dear PJ Library Families,
This month, we celebrate the Jewish holiday of Shavuot,
a time traditionally referred to as the "giving" of the Torah.
Why is it referred to as the "giving" of the
Torah and not the "receiving" of the Torah? Shavuot celebrates
the "giving" of the Torah, which happened only once on Mount Sinai, while the "receiving" of the
Torah can happen each and every day, each and every year.
Think about it in terms of PJ Library books: Your child is
going to be "given" a PJ book this month, but that child will
"receive" the gift of that book's story and images each and
every time it's opened.
With appreciation,
Judy Nemzer
