Dear PJ Library Families,

This month, we celebrate the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, a time traditionally referred to as the "giving" of the Torah.

Why is it referred to as the "giving" of the Torah and not the "receiving" of the Torah? Shavuot celebrates the "giving" of the Torah, which happened only once on Mount Sinai, while the "receiving" of the Torah can happen each and every day, each and every year.

Think about it in terms of PJ Library books: Your child is going to be "given" a PJ book this month, but that child will "receive" the gift of that book's story and images each and every time it's opened.

With appreciation,

Judy Nemzer
PJ Library/Shalom Baby Coordinator

Vivien Dean
PJ Library/Shalom Baby North County Assistant

Shavuot Resources & Activities

Fun Shavuot Activities
Shavuot has two traditions that speak to young children: staying up all night "studying" and eating dairy foods. On May 26, why not enjoy those traditions as a family? Throw an ice cream (or Tofutti) pajama party and enjoy a few of these family activities!
